Gelato Fiasco’s Mascarpone Pistachio Caramel Gelato has been named the winner for Ice Cream, Gelato, or Frozen Treat in the Specialty Food Association’s 2017 sofi Award competition. An A-List panel of judges made the coveted award based on a blind taste test and review of ingredient quality. The awards are officially acknowledged at the Fancy Food Show in New York City in June. Mascarpone Pistachio Caramel Gelato has a dense, creamy base made with mascarpone cheese. Texture is provided by a caramel swirl and pieces of pistachio. The concept was inspired by the filling found in Sicilian cannoli.
